The majority of the Lake Champlain - Lake George Regional Planning Board's region is covered by the Lake Champlain watershed. This 8,234 sqare mile watershed is shared between New York, Vermont and Quebec. Several other watersheds within the LCLGRPB area include the Upper Hudson River, Mohawk River, Black River and Saint Lawrence River.
The water that flows through a watershed is a natural resource valued by many. It contains attributes for recreation, aesthics, wildlife habitat and much more. It is our job to help protect and maintain the water quality of the watershed for current and future uses.
The LCLGRPB assists each County Water Quality Coordinating Committee with implementing their county specific water quality projects. The LCLGRPB is also a member of the Champlain Watershed Improvement Coalition of New York, Inc (CWICNY - pronounced "Quick-knee"). This watershed organization focuses on implementing various water quality projects, including the North Country Stormwater Tradeshow & Conference and several septic system workshops. The technical assistance shared among the various county agencies has also increased intercounty partnerships and relations.
Another water quality project the LCLGRPB assists with is the Adirondack Waterfest . This one day event is orientated towards everything water. Located in a different community every summer, Waterfest helps the local community celebrate their water resources through water related educational games, activities, guided tours, interactive exhibits, demonstrations and much more.
