Brownfield Redevelopment

In 2025, the Lake Champlain–Lake George Regional Planning Board (LCLGRPB) was awarded a Brownfields Assessment Coalition Grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In partnership with the Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, and Warren/Washington Industrial Development Agencies, LCLGRPB is working to identify, assess, and support the redevelopment of brownfield properties throughout the region.

The program is focused on helping communities transform distressed, blighted, and underutilized properties into productive assets through environmental assessment, planning, and community engagement activities.

Through this initiative, LCLGRPB will:

  • Develop and maintain an inventory of potential brownfield sites
  • Prioritize properties for streamlined and cost-effective environmental assessments
  • Conduct community outreach workshops and public engagement activities
  • Provide technical assistance and oversight through environmental contractors
  • Support area-wide planning and redevelopment strategies

Site-specific activities include:

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
  • Regulated Building Materials Surveys
  • Cleanup and reuse planning
  • Preparation of preliminary remediation plans and cost estimates
  • Redevelopment planning to explore future reuse opportunities and economic potential

LCLGRPB is currently seeking potential brownfield properties to include in this program.
